EUCHARIST
The Eucharist is the source and summit of the whole Church’s and of the Christian life. Through baptism … there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male or female, but all are one in Christ Jesus … in which the assembly fully portrays the nature of the Church and its role in the Eucharist as it gathers together the men and women of every age and walk of life. Whenever the community gathers to celebrate the Eucharist, it announces the death and resurrection of the Lord until his return. The supreme manifestation of this is the Sunday assembly. This is the day of the week on which, the Paschal Mystery is celebrated in the Eucharist in a special way. Christ is always present in a body of the faithful gathered in his name. He is present too in his Word, for it is he who speaks when the scriptures are proclaimed. In the Eucharist, Christ is present both in the person of the minister, and in the species of bread and wine. In this sacrament Christ is present is real par excellence.
