DETENTION MINISTRY

"For I was in prison and you visited ME..."   Matthew 25:36
  • Our mission is to communicate the Good News of God's uncondition love to those incarcerated.
  • We affirm each person, not necessarily their behavior, and invite them to grow as sons and daughters of God.
  • We recognize that we ourselves will be called to deeper conversion through our interaction with those in detention.
  • We see our mission not as an act of charity but as a living of the central mission of the Gospel.

ORANGE COUNTY JAILS

In the local jails, ministers from St. Angela's share the Good News of God's unconditional love withincarcerated adults and juveniles. We lead Communion Services, Bible study and faith enrichment groups, as well as one on one pastoral visitations. Our outreach is coordinated through the Catholic Detention Ministry of the Diocese of Orange.

CIW, California Institute for Women, Corona, CA

Recently, parishioners have become involved at CIW. We have participated in Crossover Conversations sponsored by the Women and Criminal Justice Network. It is an apportunity for those from the "outside " to meet in small groups with women on the "inside" to have a shared dialogue. In February 2009, a group of 7 of our parishioners joined other churches and Bishop Zavala of LA to converse with 117 women on the inside to learn the effects of the prison system on their lives and those of their families. If you are interested in forming a future Crossover, please contact Jan Urban (714)879-7663 / janu@stangelabreachurch.org.
