Children of St. Angela Merici Parish can help to make a difference by becoming part of the Altar Server Ministry. As part of this ministry, the children have the opportunity to serve at the Lord's Table with the priests and deacons of our parish. Service at the Lord's Table is a responsibility and a commitment that is taken seriously by the child and their family.

Our children can begin serving once they have reached the fifth grade and have successfully completed the altar server training program. The training program is held annually at the beginning of the year. A parent and the child are required to attend an initial session to review the commitment to the Ministry. The children are required to attend four two-hour sessions. During the sessions the children have interaction with the priests of our parish, the altar server directors and experienced senior servers. The seniour servers walk the children through all the phases of the Mass. They learn how to wear the albs, why there are different color cinchers, how to carry the cross and candles. They also learn the proper way to process in for Mass and the recessional. They learn when to receive the gifts, how to handle the water and wine, the process for washing of the hands, setting the altar, as well as clearing the altar. They also learn all of the terminology associated with the Mass.

The rewards for the children serving are many. The children are giving of their time and talent. This gift that they give is appreciated by the priests, the deacons, the directors and the parishioners. Most importantly is the closer bond that the children develop with their faith and parish community. This Ministry shows our children that even at young age they can make a difference in our Parish community.
